For the past 8 years I have had a cozy little spot at Tanglefoot Park Campground in the Village of Spring Lake, Michigan. I’ve kept my airstream on lot #30 which has the perfect view of the Grand River which leads into Lake Michigan. Doesn’t get much better than this.
The Village is actually on a peninsula surrounded on three sides by Spring Lake and the Grand River. There are many public access points to the water including a municipal boat launch, canoe and kayak launches, a sandy beach with restrooms and a life guard, and fishing platforms. Spring Lake is a friendly community located just minutes from Grand Haven, Holland, Muskegon and Grand Rapids.
Within walking distance of my silver tin can, is the amazing venue Seven Steps Up which is home to the Pin Drop Concert Series. “Owners Gary and Michelle Hanks have turned the former Masonic Temple, located at 116 South Jackson Street, into a world-class Listening Room, comfortably seating up to 120 or so concert goers. It all started with an idea that a high-quality music experience should not have to compete with the cacophony of a busy bar. True music aficionados want to hear every note and every word in an environment so quiet you can hear a pin drop. ” Quoted from – Seven Steps Up
I have seen several musicians there including Kyle Cook (Matchbox 20) and Mary Fahl who does her own version of Pink Floyd’s Dark side of the Moon.. I am a huge fan!
A short walk or ride on your bike on the bike path will lead you straight to the Tiki Bar & Jacks located at the Holiday Inn in Spring Lake. Another good venue with local musicians and bar food. The plate of nachos are huge and the bartenders make a mean Cosmopolitan.. Friday afternoons this place is hopping and live music follows inside Jacks later in the evening.
Breakfast is always a given while camping at Tanglefoot. You can smell the coffee perculating and the bacon sizzeling.. I usually wake up, give a stretch, shake it off and start afoot to my old stand by The Idle Hour.. Old School, Everything breakfast and more.
